Hotel Toukaisou @ Asakusa, Tokyo

7:30 AM

It is not easy to find cheap rooms to stay in Tokyo, moreover a spacious room. If you want cheap, you need to tolerate staying in small and cramped room. I was expecting small rooms, but the rooms here were so much smaller than my expectation.

Toukaisou Ryokan is conveniently located in the center of Asakusa area, 10 minutes walk from Tawaramachi Station (which is on the Ginza line that gives easy access to Ginza, Ueno, Akihabara, Shibuya….), . This hotel was hidden in one of the back lane, quite secluded, but I felt safe walking around in this area, even 10pm at night.

A small counter for guests check-in/out. When I first walked in, I could not believe I would have to stay here for the next couple of days. Even the walk way was so narrow. The interior and settings were quite worn out, but looked clean in overall.

This is the room where we squeeze in 3 people for 3 nights… We had to fold and unfold the futon every day and night, to make way for us to walk around, or to get things from our bags. Luggage were put at one corner.

Although the room was small, it has an attached bath, which was quite spacious for a room of this size. It was dark inside because of the old designed tiles and bathtub, and a yellowish lighting.

The toilet is separate from the bathroom. As you can see, it was extremely small, you can just sit on the toilet bowl while using the basin. It was that small.

Yes it was small, but the room had everything we needed, an attached bath, hairdryer, TV and free wi-fi.

Twin room: 7000 Yen per night
