Yashima ~ the Genpei battlesite

Yashima is a flat topped mountain just outside of Takamatsu's city center.

"From afar, the area looks roof-shaped and the view of the Seto Inland Sea can be seen from the mountaintop. It is also known as the historic battlefield of the Genpei War (major battle fought at the end of the 12th Century) and there still are many historic sites remaining that tell us the story of the battle that took place long ago.

Around the flat summit are some attractions related to the mountain's history as a battleground, including a Monument to the Battle of Yashima and Chinoike ("blood pond"), a pond which is said to have turned red with blood after the victorious Minamoto washed their swords in it. "

From here we can have great view of Takamatsu city and of the Seto Inland Sea.

This is where I throw some clay plates off the mountain, which according to some people, it is for good luck.

"The game of hurling round earthenware called Karawake which Yashima is known for comes from the Genpei War as well. It is based on the action the victorious Genji clan took, which was hurling their Jingasa (type of helmet-like protective gear) to commemorate their victory."

After Yashima, we strolled around town at Marugame-Machi Shopping Mall (Takamatsu Central Shopping Mall boasts of the longest arcade in Japan).

There was an event there about using newspaper to make dresses. @_@ This lady was wearing a newspaper dress.
