A quiet little town @ Hida Furukawa

11:41 PM

After we spent the whole morning in Shirakawago, we spent remaining of the day at a small town in Hida Furukawa.

We took the JR Takayama line from Takayama Station to Hida Furukawa Station (230 Yen). It is only 15 minutes away from Takayama via train.

@ Hida Furukawa Station...

Beautiful part of this small town is the mountain landscape of Gifu Prefecture on the background. It is a nicely preserved old town, much quieter than Takayama.

Like Takayama, Hida Furukawa is famous for the high quality timber of the region and the high level craftsmanship skills of the local carpenters.
The two towns are often called twins, and are also known as the "Twin Little Kyotos." because the construction and atmosphere are said to resemble Kyoto.

On the way we stopped by a local restaurant to have our late lunch of the day.

It mainly serves tendon (rice), udon and soba. We were the only customers dining in at the time.

I ordered this chuuka soba. It doesn't look like the display on the window and the taste was so-so only.

Window display...

Menu with price was displayed on the window as well... so can see first before go in to make order.

After a quick lunch, we continue strolling along the canal-lined street. The town is so quiet and peaceful and no one else was to be seen. It was around 3 - 4pm that time.

Passed by a temple I think...

Tulips are lovely...

Seto-gawa River flows through a 1.8-meter-wide moat that cuts across the town.

It reads Seto-gawa canal...

Bridge connecting to the other side of the town...

Taking picture from the bridge...

Felt really relax spending time in both Takayama and Furukawa. It was a great getaway from city life. Here there is no stress and rushing, just lay back and relax! Really miss the time spent there!
